SUSTAINABILITY
Just off the world-renowned Bahnhofstrasse in the heart of Zurich’s historic Old Town, the Widder Hotel is a one of the most special and unique boutique hotels in Zurich and perhaps in all of Switzerland that dates back to the 12th century. The topic of sustainability is therefore of great importance to us.
For us at the Widder Hotel, it is all about taking into account and harmonizing the needs and concerns of people, the environment and the economy in equal measure.
Sustainability is a process - a long road that we will certainly take. Compliance with legal requirements is not enough for us; we want to set an example and exceed it. We summarize our efforts in our sustainability mission statement.

Plastic neutral
Thanks to a cooperation with CleanHub, The Living Circle is "plastic neutral." The hotels have systematically reduced single-use plastic. Where it is not substitutable, the single-use plastic is compensated through the cooperation with CleanHub.

The Living Circle x Fundaziun Uccelin
The Living Circle supports the Fundaziun Uccelin of Sarah and Andreas Caminada from January 2023. We will donate a voluntary contribution of 2 Swiss francs per menu in each of our fine dining restaurants in Zurich and Ascona to the independent foundation.

25 July 2023Our first esg2go Sustainability Rating & Reporting is available. Esg2go is a rating & reporting system for SMEs, which allows a quantitatively supported classification of sustainability in the areas of Environment (E), Social (S) and Governance (G). We use esg2go for a transparent assessment of our position. The rating ranks and shows where we have potential for improvement at the Widder Hotel.

SapoCycle is a non-profit organisation that collects discarded soaps in hotels and turns them into life-saving products. The soaps are recycled by people with disabilities and then distributed to improve sanitary conditions of families in need.

We are constantly optimising our electricity consumption and investing in appliances and machines that switch off automatically when not in use.

No Food Waste
Thanks to the bio-tran system in the kitchen of our hotels, environmentally friendly energy is generated from our preparation and food waste. Strict waste separation and thus the correct recycling of waste is also a matter of course for us. Nespresso pods are collected and returned.

Laundry
The bed linen and towels in our rooms in the entire group are only changed on request. If a change of bed linen is requested, the hotel guest places the plush stork from the bedside table on the bed. In this way, our guests can directly contribute to sustainability.

Storchen Zürich and Widder Hotel passionately support education and annually offer five apprenticeships. Furthermorge we collaborate with popular Hotel Management Schools, like "École hôtelière de Lausanne" or "SHL" in Lucerne and offer internships.
